Cast Some Giant Shadows

Early morning and late afternoon can offer great lighting opportunities for photographers.  On clear days the bright sun is at a low angle during the golden hours.

Fascinating shadows and interesting patterns often follow the bridges and urban sculptures found in Cleveland's Flats.  In the picture above the current Innerbelt Bridge throws its shadow across the former site of Cleveland Cold Storage.

The Columbus Rd. bridge spans the Cuyahoga not too far from the Cleveland Rowing Club.  Hart Crane Memorial Park is just visible at the left with its strip of green among the sculptures of Gene Kangas.

One of Kangas' sculptured benches bears the Crooked River motif.  It is complete with a bulk carrier snaking its way up the Cuyahoga.

Here the early morning shadows streak across the sidewalk sculptures in Hart Crane Park.  The location offers interesting views of the bridge as well as Kangas' work.  It can be found on the east bank of the river adjacent to the Columbus Road bridge.

Reminescent of the "Amityville Horror," a ghostly sunset burns through the shadowed arches of the Lorain-Carnegie bridge.
